Anophtalmos and Microphtalmos » Eye Q11.1 - Q11.2

Definition:

Anophthalmos [Q11.1] & Microphthalmos [Q11.2]: apparently absent or small eyes. Some normal adnexal elements and eyelids are usually present. In microphthalmia, the corneal diameter is usually less than 10 mm. and the antero posterior diameter of the globe is less than 20 mm.

Notes:

ANOPHTHALMIA [Q11.1]. is the extreme degree of MICROPHTHALMIA [Q11.2] They are hard to distinguish without histology. Possibly microphthalmia if coexisting with a hairless periorbital region.
